Hazard Perception Test |
|
|
|
A hazard means anything that can cause the driver to
change the speed, direction or stop the vehicle they
are driving. In
hazard perception test
exam you will need to
identify the hazard which develop due to which the
driver need to change the vehicle status. |
|
It includes pedestrians crossing road, cars stopping
ahead of you, car entering from side roads etc. |
|
During the hazard perception
test you will be presented with various real driving
scenarios. During each scenario, you are asked to
indicate when it would be safe to perform a driving manoeuvre. For example, your response to a scenario
might be 'turn right' based on what you see on the
screen. Your responses are scored to assess your
level of skill in identifying hazards. |
|
You can build up your hazard perception test skills by using
the practice clips available on the internet or you
can use PC-CD ROMs |
|
You can attempt DSA theory
test which consists on multiple choice questions and
hazard perception test when you
have your provisional P1 licence for at least 12
months. A fee is charged for each test attempt. You
need to have enough driving experience, good hazard
perception skills to appear for the exam.
You must be at least 17 years 11 months of age to do
the hazard perception test, however, a licence may
not be issued before you are 18 years old. |
|
|
|
The hazard perception part is
introduced by a short tutorial video that explains
how the test works and gives you the chance to see a
sample film clip. This will help you to understand
what you need to do. |
|
|
|
You are shown a variety of driving scenes, seen from
a driver's point of view. There are 14 film clips.
Each
hazard perception test clip contains one or more developing
hazards. There are 15 hazards in total and you must
identify at least 13 of them. You should respond by
pressing the mouse button as soon as you see a
hazard developing. Your response will not cause the
scene in the video to alter in any way. However, a
red flag will appear at the bottom of the screen to
show that your response has been noted. |
|
Before each clip starts, there will be a 10-second
pause to allow you to familiarise yourself with the
new road situation. |
|
|
During your exam, you
will have to deal with your nervousness. You can
do this by deep breathing,
meditation etc. These techniques will help you
to focus on the test. If you are relaxed and
calm before the test you will be able to perform
better.
Good understanding of the exam should
ensure success.
