Important Features Of Hazard Perception Test
The hazard perception test has its own uniqueness to describe in the driving theory test. It is the second part of driving theory test. The Driver vehicle license agency has introduced the hazard perception test to reduce the mishap happening on the road. The inexperienced drivers are unknowingly involved in accidents where the other road user has to tolerate this mishap. Introduction of the hazard perception test was important to increase the hazard awareness among new learner drivers and inexperienced drivers on the road.
The hazard perception test was introduced in the year 2002 by the Driving Standard Agency (DSA). The learner driverís skills can be improved only when the learner will assume themselves as a driver driving a vehicle. There are 14 video clips in which the learner has to identify the actual hazard. There are 15 hazards and one clip has two developing hazards. The hazard has road scenes features and developing hazard allows the driver to change the direction, speed and sometimes to stop. The scoring mechanism work as 5 marks for each hazard and total score for 15 hazards is 75 marks. The learner has to score minimum 44 marks to pass the hazard perception test. The learner has to understand the road scenes hazards and then they can take the step accordingly.
There are some hazards you have been familiar to take a look such as:
- Pedestrians or cyclists crossing the road
- Vehicles emerging from side roads, parking places or driveways
- Large vehicles moving over to your side of the road
- Meeting oncoming vehicles on narrow roads or where other obstructions or slow moving vehicles make the road narrow
- Loose pets and farmyard animals
- Changes in the traffic movement and volume
- Junctions and roundabouts
- Horse riders
- Weather conditions of the day
- Road surfaces
- Parked vehicles
- Hidden junctions & turns
The above given road hazards are the barriers and obstruction on the road against vehicle where the driver has to hit the hazard and drive safely. The hazard has many features but the only thing is when the learner understands the hazard can overcome and drive safely on the road. The driving safely on the road is easy if the driver observe the upcoming hazards on the road. So try to drive vigilantly on the road with full concentration and anticipation.
